TREVOR SMITH SENTENCED IN LUTON FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF YOUNG GIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Luton, Trevor Smith, a 60-year-old man with no fixed address but who was residing in Luton at the time of the incident, has been handed a significant prison sentence for his heinous crimes involving a young teenage girl.On Tuesday, Luton Crown Court sentenced Smith to a total of eight years in prison for the crime of rape, along with an additional two years for sexual assault.
These sentences are to be served concurrently, meaning he will serve the prison time for both charges simultaneously.
Smith had previously pleaded guilty to these charges during an earlier hearing held in July, which likely influenced the court's decision.
In addition to his prison sentence, Smith was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and protect the public from potential future offenses.
Furthermore, he will be registered on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
The incident in question occurred on December 19 of the previous year, when Smith sexually assaulted and subsequently raped the young girl.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, immediately reported the assault to a family member, prompting swift action from law enforcement.
Smith was arrested shortly after the report was made, bringing him into custody and initiating the legal proceedings that culminated in his sentencing.
During her victim impact statement, the young girl expressed the profound and lasting effects of the assault.
She stated, “The incident is so fresh in my mind, it is always there, like I live in that moment all the time.” She also shared the emotional and educational toll the trauma has taken on her, revealing that her concentration has been severely affected, leading to missed school days and a decline in her mental health.
The girl expressed concern about how these experiences might impact her future, emphasizing her desire to not let this incident hinder her chances of success.
She concluded her statement by placing full responsibility on Smith, asserting, “The only person to blame for all of this is him.
He knew exactly what he was doing and needs to face the full consequences for his actions.” The case underscores the ongoing issues of sexual violence and the importance of justice for victims within the community of Luton.
