A man has been sentenced to four years in prison in relation to offences involving child sexual exploitation.
Patrick Joyce, aged 62, attempted to meet a 14-year-old boy but was apprehended by authorities before any contact was made.
The incident occurred on November 13 of the previous year, when Joyce traveled to Verulamium Park in St Albans after exchanging sexual messages via an online platform and WhatsApp since late October, believing he was communicating with a minor.
When he arrived at the park, law enforcement officers intercepted him and confiscated a rucksack containing a red thong and lubricant, along with a small knife stored in a sheath located in his vehicle.
Joyce, who lives on Hart Hill Lane in Luton, was taken into custody and charged with several offences, including sexual communication with a child, facilitating or arranging a child sexual offence, inciting a child to watch a sexual act, and possessing a bladed article in public.
He admitted guilt to all allegations and was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday, March 12, to four years’ imprisonment.
A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also imposed.
