TREVOR BROMFIELD FROM EASTLEIGH AND WINCHESTER JAILED FOR HISTORIC SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILD
In a case that spanned over two decades, Trevor Bromfield, a man originally from Winchester, has been brought to justice for historic sexual offences involving a young girl.The troubling events date back to 1992, when Bromfield was first arrested in connection with the allegations.
However, due to insufficient evidence at the time, police were compelled to drop the investigation, leaving the case unresolved for many years.
It was only in recent years that the victim, now an adult woman, sought to revisit her traumatic past.
She decided to undergo a private lie detector test, which Bromfield failed, raising suspicions and prompting further investigation.
This development led Bromfield to eventually break down and admit to the abuse, providing the crucial confession authorities had long sought.
In October 2012, at Winchester Crown Court, Bromfield, a former taxi driver, pleaded guilty to sexually touching a 13-year-old schoolgirl.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of the incident, which had occurred nearly 20 years earlier.
Bromfield’s guilty plea marked a significant moment in the pursuit of justice for the victim, who had endured years of silence and pain.
The judge sentenced Bromfield to a total of 36 months in prison.
As part of the sentence, he was ordered to serve 18 months behind bars, with the remaining 18 months to be served on licence.
Additionally, Bromfield was mandated to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Following the sentencing, the victim expressed a sense of relief and closure.
She stated that she is now able to move forward with her life, feeling that justice has finally been served.
She also emphasized that her courage in coming forward and her belief in the truth have been validated, providing her with a sense of vindication after years of suffering in silence.
