TOSIN DADA AND SOLOMON ADEBIYI SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS EACH FOR RAPE IN NORTHAMPTON

In a case that has shocked the Northampton community, two men accused of heinous sexual offenses have been handed lengthy prison sentences after a harrowing trial. Tosin Dada, aged 34 and formerly residing on Knox Road in Wellingborough, along with Solomon Ibukun Adebiyi, aged 39 and previously living on Stanley Street in Northampton, faced serious charges related to a brutal assault that took place in 2022.

According to court records, the incident occurred in the early hours of March 12, 2022, in Northampton. The two men allegedly engaged in a series of sexual acts with a 17-year-old girl, which they later claimed were consensual. The assault took place in a room located above the Exotic Cuisine Restaurant in Abington Square, a well-known area within Northampton. During the attack, the young girl was reported to have repeatedly begged the men to stop, highlighting the severity and distress of the situation.

Initially, both Dada and Adebiyi denied the allegations of rape when they were taken into custody. They insisted that the sexual encounters had been consensual, attempting to dismiss the accusations as misunderstandings or miscommunications. However, following a thorough police investigation, the evidence against them was compelling enough to charge both men with three counts of rape each.

The case proceeded to a nine-day trial at Northampton Crown Court, which commenced at the beginning of September. After eight hours of deliberation, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding both Dada and Adebiyi guilty on all counts. The verdict marked a significant moment in the pursuit of justice for the victim and the community.

On November 29, the same court convened once again to deliver the sentencing. Both men received identical sentences of 14 years in prison, a reflection of the gravity of their crimes and the court’s stance on such offenses. The sentences serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of sexual violence and the importance of accountability.

Detective Sergeant Andrea Taylor, who led the investigation, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome. She stated, “This was a very complex investigation, and I am so pleased that the jury found both of these men guilty and that they have both received substantial sentences as a result. The attack on this young girl was horrific, and I want to commend her for the bravery she has shown throughout the case.”

Sergeant Taylor also praised the victim’s resilience, noting, “No one should have had to go through what she has, but I have been taken aback by her courage, not only through her support of our investigation but also how she stood up at court and gave evidence against these two men. Though nothing will ever take away what happened, she can be proud that because of her, this pair will now be jailed for a long time and no longer be able to harm anyone else.”

This report has been issued with the support of the survivor, who retains the legal right to lifelong anonymity, emphasizing the importance of respecting her privacy amid the ongoing pursuit of justice.
