TOM FARQUHAR SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN ABERDEEN FOR REPEATED SEX OFFENCES
Tom Farquhar, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, has been handed down a lengthy prison sentence of 14 years following his conviction on multiple serious charges in Aberdeen. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about his criminal behavior, which spanned over several years and included multiple acts of violence and sexual assault.According to court reports, social workers involved in assessing Farquhar described him as exhibiting a notably hostile attitude towards women. These assessments were part of the background checks conducted during the trial, and they painted a picture of a man who lacked empathy and showed little remorse for his actions. Despite the overwhelming evidence and his conviction, Farquhar maintained his innocence throughout the court proceedings, denying all allegations against him.
The charges against Farquhar stemmed from a particularly heinous incident in 2022, where he was found guilty by a jury of five counts related to a brutal rape. The court heard that during this assault, Farquhar forcibly pinned a woman down, pushed her face into a pillow to immobilize her, and grabbed her neck in a manner that restricted her breathing, actions that could have easily resulted in her death. The severity of his violence was underscored by the fact that he committed a second rape the very next day, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
In addition to these recent crimes, the court also examined a lengthy history of domestic abuse dating back to 2015. This history included stalking, physical assaults, threats of violence, property damage, and controlling behaviors directed at various partners. Witnesses and victims described instances where Farquhar punched, kicked, and strangled individuals, often threatening to kill them. His pattern of abuse extended beyond physical violence to include persistent monitoring and unwanted contact, further illustrating his manipulative and dangerous nature.
The judge overseeing the case expressed concern over Farquhar’s continued denial of responsibility and his limited insight into the gravity of his actions. The social workers’ reports highlighted their worries about his hostility towards women, which appeared to be unchanging despite the legal proceedings.
In sentencing, the court imposed a total of 12 years of imprisonment, with an additional two years on license, ensuring that Farquhar would remain under supervision after his release. Furthermore, he will be registered on the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the serious threat he poses to the community. The judge emphasized that only a custodial sentence of such length could adequately reflect the profound impact of his crimes and serve as a deterrent to others who might consider similar actions.
