TIMOTHY FARRINGTON FROM CWMBRAN SENTENCED AFTER ONLINE CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION IN CARDIFF
A disturbing case involving Timothy Farrington, a 55-year-old resident of Cwmbran, has culminated in his conviction and sentencing following a series of heinous online communications with what he believed were underage girls. The incident came to light when police officers, acting undercover, set a trap by posing as two young girls named Jess and Carys, in an effort to investigate online child exploitation.
Farrington, a father of three, was caught in the act after engaging in a series of explicit and inappropriate conversations with the undercover officers.
Prosecutor Jeffrey Jones detailed that Farrington, under the false alias 'James,' initiated contact with the decoys and expressed a desire to meet in person.
During the exchanges, he asked one of the girls if she was a virgin and whether she wanted to 'lose it,' revealing his intent to pursue sexual activity with minors.
The police investigation uncovered that Farrington inquired about naked photographs, and specifically asked Carys, who claimed to be from Cardiff, if she was seeking older men and if she wanted to meet at Cardiff railway station the following week.
He also instructed her to delete their messages, indicating an awareness of the illicit nature of their conversations.
Farrington was charged with two counts of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child and two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child.
His offences spanned from July 3, 2023, to August 15, 2023, during which he believed he was communicating with minors.
During the court proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, Farrington admitted to the charges.
His legal representative, Harry Baker, highlighted his client’s poor health, noting that Farrington had suffered a heart attack upon police arrest last summer, which was his third in recent years.
Baker also requested that Farrington be given credit for his guilty pleas and emphasized his current circumstances, including the need for social services to oversee contact with his two children under 18.
Judge Lucy Crowther delivered a stern judgment, condemning Farrington’s actions as 'vile, graphic and shocking.' She pointed out that Farrington had asked one of the girls to strip for him, underscoring the severity of his misconduct.
As a result, Farrington was sentenced to 26 months in prison.
Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk to the community.
