An NHS employee has been informed that he will likely serve a prison term after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two patients during bladder scan procedures.
The court heard that the 27-year-old, named Ieuan Crump, specifically targeted vulnerable female patients, choosing not to wear gloves during examinations.
Crump was working as a trainee health worker at the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran, Wales, in August 2021.
During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, a victim described how Crump sexually assaulted her with his finger while a female colleague was present, attempting to insert a catheter.
After she left, Crump returned alone and claimed he needed to check for swelling, then repeated the inappropriate contact.
Another woman recounted how Crump touched her genital area and asked if she was sore, while also opening her legs during the scan.
It was argued that Crump deliberately targeted these women and opted not to wear gloves, though he denied these allegations, asserting he always used the necessary personal protective equipment.
Throughout the trial, Crump denied all charges, with his lawyer Marian Lewis describing him as a man of impeccable reputation.
However, a jury swiftly convicted him after less than three hours of deliberation, finding him guilty of nine counts of sexual assault, including three involving penetration.
Judge Vanessa Francis told Crump that a prison sentence was unavoidable but allowed him bail until sentencing on December 18.
He will also need to register as a sex offender temporarily until his sentencing.
Crump had previously faced a similar trial in 2024, which was halted after over two weeks of proceedings.
