CWMBRAN MAN TOLD HE THOUGHT HE WAS SPEAKING TO 14-YEAR-OLD IN ONLINE SEX CHAT
A man engaged in online discussions with an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, asking for inappropriate pictures.
However, he was actually communicating with an undercover police officer posing as a minor.
Anthony Moses, aged 48 and residing on East Road, initially exchanged messages with someone he thought was a juvenile before requesting to move the conversation to WhatsApp.
The person acting as the decoy made it clear that they were 14 years old, but Moses responded that this was acceptable and continued communicating through messages.
The court was informed that Moses had no prior convictions.
He later admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.
During proceedings, Peter Donnison, representing the defense, stated that Moses's case was not among the most serious.
The barrister also mentioned that his client suffers from health issues.
Judge Richard Kember sentenced Moses to six months in prison, suspended for a year.
Additionally, Moses was ordered to participate in a 30-day rehabilitation program and complete 150 hours of unpaid community work.
A sexual harm prevention order was also imposed on him for seven years.
