TWO NORTH EAST FRIENDS JAILED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE OF CRYING WOMAN IN 'DEHUMANISING' ATTACK
Two men who committed a brutal and dehumanising sexual assault on a young woman, both raping her simultaneously, have been sentenced to a combined total of 22 years in prison.Taylor Dove and Vieri Chapman subjected the woman to a vile attack after she rejected their suggestion of a threesome.
Following the assault, Dove boasted about his actions, the court was told.
At the time of the offence, Dove was on bail for another rape involving a teenage girl, and Chapman, also known as Jevonni Copley, denied the rape allegations but was convicted by a jury.
Dove, aged 22 from Balmoral Terrace, Sunderland, who was also convicted of raping the teenage girl, received a 12-year sentence.
Chapman, age 25 from Wansbeck Road, Gosforth, Newcastle, was sentenced to 10 years.
Both offenders are required to register as sex offenders for life and are subject to restraining orders.
In sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Julie Clemitson stated: "That victim was violated in the most vile way by two men at the same time." She added: "She was overwhelmed and in shock during the incident.
No wonder she was unable to resist or verbally communicate her lack of consent.
If you had paid attention, you might have seen she was crying.
Taylor Dove, you were determined to have sex with her that night, regardless of her consent.
Alcohol, entitlement, and a disregard for her rights seem to have influenced your actions.
This was an ordeal that left her bleeding and emotionally distraught." The judge noted that the victim disclosed the attack to someone afterward, while Dove was bragging about his exploits to a friend.
The woman’s statement, read aloud in court, described how she was dehumanised and how it profoundly affected her personal life and relationships, adding that she struggled to talk about the incident to avoid re-living the trauma.
She expressed her anger that the perpetrators only thought of themselves and hoped they would understand the impact of their actions, which she said ruined what should have been the happiest part of her life.
Dove was also found guilty of raping another woman while she was asleep.
That victim told the court: "Taylor Dove has destroyed my life.
I only felt able to report what he did because I was afraid he would do the same to someone else." She described suffering from severe anxiety, depression, and flashbacks, feeling as if Dove was on top of her.
She said she had become a shell of her former self and believed Dove did not see his actions as wrong or feel remorseful.
Defense lawyer Jamie Adams stated that Dove was in denial about his guilt and that he was highly regarded by those around him.
Mr Adams suggested that Dove’s conviction would affect him for life but described him as having a good core.
In the case of Chapman, attorney Laura Miller highlighted that he has autism and noted his previous modelling and DJing careers, which are now forever impacted by this conviction, making it impossible for him to return to those pursuits.
