SUNDERLAND RACIST JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AFTER DEMANDING CAR KEYS AND PUNCHING VICTIM
A man from Sunderland convicted of racial harassment and attempted robbery has received a prison sentence.
Jamie Wilkinson, age 36, approached a vehicle in the Pennywell district at approximately 6:15 pm on Tuesday, December 9.
He demanded the car keys from the driver, who refused, prompting Wilkinson to attack unprovoked.
He struck the victim's head from behind with a punch, according to police reports.
Witnesses who saw the incident stepped in to assist the driver, but Wilkinson then tried to assault them as well.
During the event, Wilkinson made a comment about the driver’s ethnicity.
Police detained Wilkinson shortly afterward, following another report of a disturbance nearby.
He was charged with attempted robbery and two counts of racially aggravated harassment, and was held in custody.
On March 19, he was sentenced to four years in prison at Newcastle Crown Court.
