Gavin Cowell, a resident of Sunderland, perpetrated a series of severe abuses against a woman, including acts of rape, sexual assault, and strangulation that left her struggling for air.
He also caused damage to her personal possessions and repeatedly physically assaulted her.
Following the investigation by police, the 37-year-old was charged and subsequently convicted.
Cowell denied two counts of rape, five counts of causing actual bodily harm through assault, two counts of sexual assault, and one count each for non-fatal strangulation, coercive or controlling behavior, threats to kill, and threatening with an offensive weapon.
Despite his denial, a jury found him guilty on all charges.
He admitted to damaging property in two instances and destroying property in another.
Last month, at Teesside Crown Court, Cowell received an 18-year prison sentence and was also subject to a lifetime restraining order to protect the victim.
