SUNDERLAND PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED
Darren Jarrett, aged 42, was engaged in online communications with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, during which he sent multiple explicit images and voice recordings.
Unbeknownst to him, his conversations were actually with an officer from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU), part of an ongoing investigation.
Residing on Margate Street in Sunderland, Jarrett exchanged numerous sexually explicit messages, discussing the individuals he claimed to be communicating with, and also sent voice notes of himself masturbating.
The chat started in March 2025, and by June of that year, police officers arrested Jarrett and seized various electronic devices.
He was charged with engaging in sexual communication with a minor and encouraging or causing a child to participate in sexual acts.
Jarrett later admitted guilt to all charges.
On Thursday, he appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to a 12-month prison term, suspended for two years, along with a 10-year Sex Notification Requirement and a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
