NOTTINGHAM WOMAN JAILED FOR BLACKMAIL OVER FALSE RAPE CLAIM
A woman named Tahereh Ghorbanlou was involved in a blackmail scheme against a Nottingham man.She threatened to report the man for rape unless he paid her £5,000.
The incident began after they met through an online dating app in March 2021, with their first encounter on 12 March at the victim’s home in Nottingham, where they had a drink and then engaged in consensual sex.
Ghorbanlou made a casual comment about having to pay for sex next time, which the victim dismissed as a joke, and they parted on good terms.
However, she later sent him messages claiming she was injured and in pain, and threatened to accuse him of a sexual offence to police if he did not pay her £30,000.
The victim reported these threats to police, leading to her arrest.
Ghorbanlou initially claimed she was the victim of sexual violence but refused to provide written statements or sign her comments.
She later made a false allegation of rape against the man on 20 March 2021.
Investigations determined she had no evidence of any sexual offence and her phone records showed she had searched for terms related to sexual violence and the price of such acts.
Ghorbanlou, of Horton Drive, Warwickshire, pleaded guilty in May 2023 to one count of blackmail.
She was sentenced to two years and three months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on 6 September.
Nottinghamshire Police described her behavior as devious and dishonest, and expressed satisfaction that her actions were exposed, emphasizing that the police take blackmail and extortion very seriously and are available to help victims.
