MANSFIELD COUPLE FAKE THEIR DEATHS FOR DECADES AND LOOT INHERITANCE
Susan and Christopher Edwards murdered her parents, Patricia and William Wycherley, in 1998, buried their bodies in the garden, and spent 15 years looting their bank accounts to buy Hollywood memorabilia. The couple faked their identities through forged signatures on official documents and sent Christmas cards in the names of the dead couple.
Susan had a fascination with celebrities, particularly Gary Cooper, and bought autographed items and typed letters signed by him, which she and Christopher cherished.
The couple's motive appeared to be financial gain, as Susan believed she was owed an inheritance from her step-grandmother, and they siphoned off £245,000.
They fled to France when the Department for Work and Pensions questioned them, and police later found the remains of her parents.
They were convicted of murder over 16 years after the crime, with police suspecting Christopher shot the victims with a WWII revolver, and they had planned the crime over several years.
Christopher had experience with guns, and neighbours observed him digging in the garden on the night of the murders.
