MAN JAILED AFTER RAPING YOUNG WOMAN WHILE SHE SLEPT
In June 2024, Joshua Downing from Barton Court, Mansfield, was convicted of raping a woman in her late teens while she was asleep.
The woman later noticed pain and recalled flashbacks of Downing, whom she knew, assaulting her as she drifted between sleep and consciousness.
Initially, Downing denied the incident at an address in Derby but later admitted to the victim and her family.
Following his arrest shortly after the incident, Downing faced court charges.
He admitted to the charges of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and assault by penetration during a hearing at Derby Crown Court on 29 January.
Subsequently, on 15 March, the court sentenced him to a term of eight years and two months in prison.
Additionally, he was required to register with the police as a sex offender and was subject to a restraining order aimed at protecting the victim.
These orders are set to remain in force indefinitely.
