A man from Fife has been described as “heartless” after he drove over his mother’s leg and then fled the scene without checking on her.
The incident occurred following a heated argument outside a residence on Links Street in Kirkcaldy.
Court reports reveal that Steven Pentland, aged 37, attempted to leave in his van during the dispute.
When his mother tried to halt him by grabbing the steering wheel, he accelerated, dragging her approximately 15 metres along the street.
Witnesses recounted hearing her scream in pain as she was tossed to the pavement, after which Pentland drove away without stopping.
Emergency services transported the injured woman to the hospital, where she was treated for extensive bruising and soft tissue injuries.
Despite not suffering broken bones, the woman is expected to endure lasting emotional trauma.
Prosecutor Rachel Hill told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court that the incident took place around 6:50pm on November 28 of the previous year.
Locals expressed shock over the perceived cruelty of the act, with one commenting, “You might expect a stranger to drive off — but your own son?
That’s heartbreaking.” Steven Pentland has appeared in court to face charges related to this distressing event, which has been described by many as a profound breach of trust and an act of betrayal.
