STEVE FROGG'S HORRIFIC ATTACK IN MANSFIELD LEAVES BOY FIGHTING FOR LIFE

In June 2013, a disturbing case of child assault unfolded in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, involving a man named Steven Frogg. The incident, which shocked the local community, centered around Frogg's brutal attack on a four-year-old boy he was entrusted to care for. The young child was subjected to a savage assault that resulted in severe injuries, and the aftermath revealed a chilling display of violence and neglect.

Frogg, aged 52 and residing on Frederick Street in Mansfield, was initially scheduled to face trial for attempted murder. However, earlier that week, he entered a guilty plea, sparing the court the ordeal of a lengthy trial. The prosecution, led by QC John Lloyd-Jones, detailed the extent of the child's injuries, which included five slash wounds to the scalp, fractures to the skull in three places, and knife wounds to the neck and back. The young victim was hospitalized for nearly a week, fighting for his life after the attack.

The incident occurred while the boy was playing with kittens at Frogg's flat. According to court reports, Frogg launched a ferocious and frenzied assault on the child, using at least one knife. The attack was so severe that it caused the child's skull to fracture in multiple places. After the assault, Frogg callously threw the injured boy out of the front door of his flat onto the street in the pouring rain, leaving him to lie injured and vulnerable.

Surveillance footage captured Frogg calmly sitting on his sofa inside his home, watching a children's television program, shortly after the attack. It was only after neighbors heard a prolonged scream, described as a terrible cry of pain, that police and paramedics were alerted. One local resident, alarmed by the scene, contacted emergency services after witnessing the injured boy lying in the street. The police arrived to find Frogg at his residence, seemingly unperturbed, and took him into custody.

During the court proceedings, Judge Michael Stokes QC expressed his outrage at Frogg's actions. He emphasized the breach of trust involved, noting that the child's father had left his son in Frogg's care, believing he would be safe. The judge condemned Frogg's behavior as a ferocious and frenzied attack, describing it as the worst decision the child's father had ever made. The judge also pointed out that the evidence suggested Frogg's intent was to kill the young boy, based on the nature of the injuries and the manner in which he was treated afterward.

Frogg's sentencing resulted in a 16-year prison term for attempted murder, reflecting the severity of his crime and the profound impact on the young victim and his family. The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children in the community of Mansfield.
