SEX OFFENDER STEPHEN ROBBINS JAILED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDERS AND MOVING IN WITH WOMAN
A sex offender named Stephen John Robbins failed to notify authorities when he moved in with a woman in the Stockton area, breaching the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
During the court hearing at Durham Crown Court, it was revealed that Robbins had also failed to inform police that he had left his previous accommodation at a men's hostel, where he was registered.
Robbins had previously been convicted and sentenced for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, leading to the imposition of the SHPO, which included a five-year registration and notification requirement, and a prohibition on unsupervised contact with children.
The court heard that Robbins, 21, moved out of his registered address at Changing Lives hostel in Plawsworth near Chester-le-Street on July 26, and told a woman he was living with in Stockton that he was moving in with a male friend, claiming no children would be present.
However, it emerged he was in a relationship with a woman he met online, and her young siblings, aged 12 and 6, visited the address more than once, including an overnight stay, which breached the terms of his SHPO.
Robbins was arrested on July 31 at that address and admitted to failing to comply with his registration requirements and the SHPO.
He has five previous convictions for breaching notification requirements.
Prosecutor Phillip Morley stated Robbins was taking advantage of the woman and her family, and when interviewed by police, he gave no response to questions.
The court sentenced Robbins to two years in prison and extended his SHPO by an additional five years, highlighting his apparent contempt for the court's efforts to protect young people from him.
His legal representative argued that Robbins struggled with substance misuse and mental health issues, and was in an unstable situation regarding accommodation, which contributed to his offending behavior.
Judge Christopher Prince emphasized Robbins’ ongoing defiance of court orders, resulting in the jail sentence and extension of restrictions.
