MAN BREACHED COURT ORDER ON DAY IT WAS IMPOSED
In an effort to protect his mother, Jamie Cossavella was issued a domestic abuse protection order, but he repeatedly ignored its restrictions.The court at Teesside Crown heard that the 44-year-old man was served with the order on the very day he first violated it.
Prosecutor Harriet Eglinton described how Cossavella was banned from entering his mother’s home, yet a support worker saw him hiding behind a door after rummaging through her kitchen cupboards looking for food.
She stated: “The domestic abuse protection order was granted, and on that evening, the defendant arrived at his mother’s address.
She refused him entry, and while she was on the phone calling 999, he broke in through a window.” Miss Eglinton further explained that Cossavella returned on June 5 and was discovered hiding in the garage with her keys in his pocket.
Cossavella, whose address is Craggs Street, Stockton, pleaded guilty to breaches of the protection order on two dates May 15 and June 5 of the previous year.
His lawyer, Robert Mochrie, pointed out that his client accepted the breaches were serious.
The court, presided over by Recorder Peter Makepeace, imposed a sentence of 15 months, covering both breaches.
The judge commented: “You had been arrested in respect of domestic offences committed against your mother two nights before, the breaches were committed shortly after the order was made and the protected person was particularly vulnerable.” A two-year restraining order was also issued against Cossavella.
