EAST LOTHIAN WOMAN JAILED FOR A SEVEN-YEAR CAMPAIGN OF CHILD ABUSE INCLUDING COLD SHOWERS AND NEGLECT
Stacey Peters, 31, committed serious child neglect and abuse over a period of approximately seven years. The court was told she assaulted a young child by forcing them to take cold showers when they misbehaved.
Additionally, she allowed the child to live in extremely unsanitary conditions at her former residence in Musselburgh, where furniture and window sills were covered in cat excrement and the rooms were filled with rubbish.
The property was deemed 'not fit for a child to live in' and was sealed off by police for cleaning.
The child disclosed to a teacher that Peters would hit her and, when misbehaving, she would put the child in cold showers, strike her on the bottom, and lock her out of the property.
The child also had to soothe injuries with frozen vegetables.
Officers found the property surrounded by rubbish and cat litter, and the child was found crying and locked out at one point.
Peters now resides in Whitecraig, East Lothian as she has done for over 7 years .
She pleaded guilty to wilfully neglecting the child between February 2016 and November 2023, in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
The court sentenced her to a community payback order with 12 months of supervision and 90 hours of unpaid work.
