WOMAN JAILED AFTER SEXUALLY ASSAULTING POLICE OFFICER AT EDGERTON'S ASHFIELD HOTEL
A young woman is spending Christmas behind bars after sexually assaulting a male police officer.Sophie Whitaker, 23, was arrested by the officer after displaying drunk and disorderly behaviour at the Ashfield Hotel on New North Road, Huddersfield.
Whitaker, from Wyke, near Bradford, made unwanted sexual advances to the officer which left him feeling violated, Kirklees Magistrates heard.
Alex Bozman, prosecuting, told the court Miss Whitaker was getting in a taxi when she began to shout at the officer and another man before she was asked to calm down.
He said: “She kept calling him ‘babe’ or ‘baby’ and touching him round the chest area and he asked her to stop.
“Her behaviour was becoming increasingly sexualised.” Whitaker was put in the back of a police vehicle.
The court heard Whitaker then shouted at hotel staff and other police officers who had attended the scene, before making vulgar remarks.
Mr Bozman said Whitaker told the officer: “I’ll call you baby when I can grab hold of your d***”.
The prosecutor continued: “She tried to kick and bite the officer.
He was shocked and disgusted by her actions.” Whitaker pleaded guilty to sexual assault, drunk and disorderly behaviour, and failing to surrender to court after she failed to show at an earlier hearing for the case.
Whitaker was jailed for 16 weeks and ordered to pay £1,330 in fines.
The court also noted she has a previous record of failing to carry out community orders and that going on the register would be catastrophic.
The chairwoman of the bench, Ms Julie Houston, said: “This offence is so serious a custodial sentence is necessary.” She will also have to register as a sex offender for the next seven years.
