LEICESTER MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING ABUSE AND ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND
A man named Slade Coates from Thurnby Lodge in Leicester was found guilty of carrying out years of extreme control and coercive abuse on his girlfriend.The incidents culminated in 2023 when he strangled and assaulted her, which led to his arrest.
He pleaded guilty in court to using controlling behavior, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and intentional strangulation, as well as breaching two non-molestation orders by contacting the victim despite a legal prohibition.
Coates received a sentence of three years and four months in prison and was also subject to a 10-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim.
The victim described feeling very insecure and not confident due to the prolonged abuse, spending months crying and being on edge.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Stacey Green praised her for her courage in coming forward, stating that she had shown immense bravery throughout the investigation.
Sentencing took place at Leicester Crown Court with the judge emphasizing the severity of the crimes and the importance of protecting victims from such abuse.
