--------------------------- 2026-02-26 17:23: A 16-year-old girl’s courage and determination in seeking justice have resulted in the conviction and imprisonment of her attacker for 12 years.
Riaz Armani was sentenced to 12 years at Leicester Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday 25 February) after being convicted of two counts of rape in a trial.
The incidents took place in September 2023, and throughout the past two and a half years, the victim demonstrated remarkable resilience and resolve to ensure her abuser was held accountable.
The accused, 29-year-old Riaz Armani, who has no fixed address, targeted the young girl after encountering her alone in the Hamilton area of the city shortly before midnight on Thursday, 7 September 2023.
The girl had recently left her home and was reported missing to police.
Riaz forced the girl to return to his residence on Harringworth Road, where he handed her cannabis and committed the rape.
The girl managed to leave the premises, and her escape was aided by a night shift worker who found her around 4am the following morning, prompting police to be called.
Detectives from the force’s specialized rape and serious sexual assault team known as the Signal team conducted extensive investigations over the subsequent days to identify and apprehend the suspect and the location of the offences.
This investigative effort culminated in officers tracing the address on Harringworth Road and arresting Riaz Armani shortly thereafter.
