JUDGE JAILS DATE-RAPE BRUTE FOR 12 YEARS
A BRUTAL and sadistic rapist who viciously attacked a woman he had plied with a date-rape drug has been locked up for 12 years.Simon Nash, of New Mill, told the woman that he would kill her and leave her in the gutter during a terrifying and prolonged ordeal in June.
Bradford Crown Court was told yesterday that Nash's victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had lost all of her confidence as well as her job as a result of the attack.
Nash, 38, had denied all the allegations made against him but his trial heard how he had given the woman a mixture of the drug GHB and alcohol which had made her pass out.
When she came back round Nash was on top of her and began punching and spitting at her.
Passing sentence yesterday Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told Nash: "You plied her with a drug with which you were familiar, having many pounds of it in your house.
The effect on you was to fuel your wildest passions.
The effect on her was to in fact render her unconscious." "The next thing she remembers is being in the bedroom with you on top of her punching her and spitting on her, her arms were deliberately trapped." Judge Durham Hall added: "This was a prolonged and vicious and sadistic ordeal.
It had everything to do with you venting your inadequacies and anger upon her." The trial heard how the woman was at the house Nash was renting at Robin Hood Hill, Berry Brow, Huddersfield, when he gave her the concoction.
Giving evidence the woman fought back the tears as she described then waking up, mostly naked, with Nash sat on top of her.
He then started to punch, spit and bite her, trapped her on the bed and then he raped her.
The woman managed to wriggle free and tried to jump out of a first floor window in a desperate bid to escape.
But Nash dragged her back in and flung her across the room by her hair, ripping out large clumps of it.
The victim fled downstairs and managed to get out of the kitchen window and ran down the street, partially clothed and screaming.
She was helped by a neighbour who called the police.
When Nash, of Lydgate Drive, New Mill, Huddersfield, was arrested he told the police that the woman had voluntarily taken the GHB and the jury acquitted him of a charge of administering a substance with intent.
Nash had also claimed that the sex had been consensual but the jury found him guilty of three counts of rape and a further charge of false imprisonment.
Jailing Nash, Judge Durham Hall also made a sexual offences prevention order which bans Nash from ever contacting his victim again.
He will also have to sign on the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life.
