HUDDERSFIELD PAEDOPHILE TEACHER ENTERED PROFESSION TO 'GAIN ACCESS TO CHILDREN'
Huddersfield’s former teacher, Simon Beckerson, has been banned from working with children for life following his conviction related to child indecency images.Beckerson had acknowledged that he entered the teaching profession deliberately to access children for sexual purposes.
He was imprisoned in 2021 for two years and eight months after admitting to possessing indecent images, including some depicting sexual acts involving animals.
A misconduct hearing held by the Teaching Regulation Agency concluded that Beckerson, aged 47 and formerly residing in Holmfirth, had intentionally entered the profession understanding his sexual interest in minors, motivated by personal sexual gratification.
He did not appear at the hearing and was not represented.
During his career, he taught in Huddersfield classrooms for 13 years.
The investigation was triggered when a member of the public discovered a bag containing Beckerson’s school ID badge, which was later found to include a large collection of child indecent images.
Police responded swiftly, detaining him and searching his residence.
He was suspended from his teaching position.
Records indicated that Beckerson possessed thousands of such images and had viewed them since roughly 2004, continuing until his dismissal.
The misconduct panel acknowledged his recognition of his own actions but highlighted that he had entered teaching knowing his sexual interests, which were focused on children.
The panel expressed concern over the potential risk of future offenses if he were permitted to return to the classroom.
Ultimately, they imposed a lifetime ban, citing his serious breach of trust, the length of his misconduct, the illegal images' volume, and the young victims’ ages as decisive factors in their ruling.
