PRESTONPANS MAN SHAUN MCFIE SENT TO SEX OFFENDERS' REGISTER FOR CHILD SEXUAL MESSAGING
A COUNTY man has had his name added to the sex offenders' register after he was caught sending sexual messages and images to someone he believed was a child.
Shaun McFie, 28, sent sexual communication from an address on Redburn Road in Prestonpans to a ‘child named Liana’ and caused her to look at a sexual image.
McFie also repeatedly sent images of a sexual nature, uttered sexual remarks, and encouraged the child to perform a solo sex act, all between January 16 and March 3, 2016.
However, instead of communicating with a schoolgirl, he was interacting with an adult decoy who had set up the online profile to trap online sexual predators.
McFie, who currently resides on Rope Walk in Prestonpans, admitted to attempting to communicate indecently with a child when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.
He was back in court for sentencing on Friday, where Sheriff Joseph Stewart issued him with a community payback order and a social work supervision order for 18 months.
Additionally, McFie was ordered to complete 130 hours of unpaid work and was placed on the sex offenders' register for two years.
