HUDDERSFIELD MAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER GIRLFRIEND ATTACK
A man identified as Shane Smith committed an assault against his girlfriend after she woke him up reading a breakup text. The victim recounted that Smith jumped over her and pulled her hair, causing her to fall backwards onto the bed and onto his body, which made her struggle to breathe and suffer what was believed to be a panic attack.
Smith, who resides on Fitzwilliam Street in Huddersfield town centre, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and expressed a desire for anger management assistance.
The incident occurred at her home; he initially went to police and admitted he punched her twice in the head, contrary to her account of hair pulling.
Sonia Kidd, his solicitor, explained that her client took himself to the police following the incident.
District Judge Michael Fanning described the incident as very unpleasant, noting that Smith acknowledged wrongdoing, handed himself in, and recognized the need for help.
As a result, Smith was sentenced to a community order with up to 25 days of rehabilitation activities targeting his anger issues.
He is also required to pay £50 in compensation to the victim and £85 in prosecution costs.
