DEWSBURY DELIVERY DRIVER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND THEFT IN HUDDERSFIELD
Shahban Hussain, a 29-year-old delivery driver from Dewsbury with a black belt in karate, was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman and stealing her phone. The incident took place in the early hours of September 8, in an alley close to Market Place in Huddersfield.
The woman was returning home after visiting a McDonald's, where there were no available toilets, and was using the alley to urinate.
Prosecutor Camille Morland explained that as she was putting her clothes back on, Hussain approached her, speaking rapidly and making unwanted advances.
She described his behaviour as cheesy, employing chat-up lines, and when she attempted to leave to get a taxi, he told her, 'You're not going anywhere.' Court evidence indicated Hussain initially kissed her, but she pushed him off; he grew frustrated and then sexually assaulted her, trying to take her phone during a struggle.
He used part of his body to jab her, causing her to drop the phone, which he then stole.
The victim chased him and sought assistance from nearby passersby before he was quickly arrested.
In police interviews, Hussain denied the allegations, claiming that the woman made racist remarks and that another man had harmed her, supposedly trying to help her.
However, he ultimately admitted to both sexual assault and robbery.
The woman reported injuries including bruises and scratches and said she was suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares, and depression—conditions that have severely impacted her daily functioning, studies, and social relationships.
The court considered character references and a pre-sentence report, highlighting Hussain's positive contributions to the community.
It was noted that his actions had led to the end of his marriage and strained his relationship with his three-year-old child.
Judge Ray Singh sentenced him to two years and four months in prison, along with notification requirements set for six years.
