BEDROOM RAID EX’S HOME — AND STEALS HER UNDERWEAR
A 48-year-old man has been hauled before court after sneaking into his ex-partner’s bedroom and stealing personal items — including underwear — in a bizarre and brazen theft.Scott West admitted the offence at Selkirk Sheriff Court, after targeting the woman he had previously been in a relationship with for five years.
The court heard the pair split back in 2013 — but that didn’t stop West turning up at her home in Peebles on January 19 last year, accompanied by his son.
Despite being told to wait outside, West forced his way in.
At one point, he was left alone upstairs — and that’s when he struck.
Prosecutor Fiona Hamilton told the court he entered the woman’s bedroom and helped himself to a stash of personal belongings, including perfume, nail varnish, jewellery — and underwear.
The items, valued at around £100, were later reported missing.
Police executed a search warrant at West’s home, recovering around £80 worth of the stolen goods.
Defence solicitor Liam Alexander said his client had no real explanation for the theft, describing it as “opportunistic” and admitting: “He does not know what he was thinking.” Sheriff Peter Paterson fined West £150, ordered him to pay £100 in compensation, and imposed a £10 victim surcharge.
He also slapped him with a two-year Non-Harassment Order — banning him from contacting his ex-partner.
—————————————————————————————————— 2007- A former hotel groundsman has been jailed after sneaking into a woman's house and trying on her clothes.
Scott West, 32, admitted entering the woman's home on 25 March while she was visiting friends and trying on a pink top.
Sheriff Noel McPartlin said West had caused "considerable distress" and justified a jail sentence.
Peebles Sheriff Court heard how West rummaged through the woman's laundry basket, climbed onto her double bed, and tried on a pink top.
A neighbour who had been feeding the family dog caught West.
The court had earlier heard he was infatuated with the ex-wife of a former friend, and the mother-of-two was unaware of his feelings.
West, who was placed on the sex offenders' register in June, lost his job at the Park Hotel in Peebles and joined a counselling course for alcohol addiction.
