PEEBLES WOMAN REPEATEDLY PUNCHED PARTNER ON THE HEAD

Sykes, of Violet Bank, Peebles, was found guilty after a trial at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, appearing from custody.

She had denied that between November 1 and December 29, at an address in Inverkeithing, she engaged in an abusive course of behaviour towards her then partner.

She repeatedly shouted, swore, acted aggressively, broke a TV set, broke a laptop computer and threw his mobile phone at a wall causing it to break.

She also repeatedly locked doors and took possession of his house keys.

She repeatedly accused him of infidelity, repeatedly monitored his mobile phone.

She went through his social media apps, monitored his movements and followed him.

Sykes seized him by the head, pushed her nails into his head, pulled him by the head and repeatedly punched him on the head, all to his injury.

The victim said he had met Sykes online via Facebook, having not been in a relationship for seven years.

They met up for a date in Edinburgh and later she moved into his home.

He said that “things were okay to begin with” but by the end she was drinking and becoming aggressive.

She would buy cans of Dragon Soop from the local shop and once drunk, would start accusing the man of cheating on her.

This happened on December 19 when she looked at his Facebook page and accused him of infidelity.

“She called me a ‘cheating b******’, smashed my TV, smashed my laptop and I was telling her to calm down,” he told the court.

However, she kept going, smashing his mobile phone against the wall which led to him leaving his own home to tell friends what was happening.

Sykes later apologised for the incident and asked to get back together.

The man agreed to her returning after Christmas and within days there was more trouble.

After drinking more cans of Dragon Soop, Sykes again accused the man of cheating on her before launching a violent attack.

He recalled: “She was shouting, swearing and started hitting me on the face and head.

She dug her nails right into the side of my face when I tried to get away.” During her evidence, Sykes initially denied assaulting the man but then admitted hitting him, saying: “I just flipped.” Sheriff Mark Allan found Sykes guilty and she will remain in custody until sentencing on March 10.
