BOY PRETENDED TO BE 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL TO SNARE ABERDEEN MAN
A 54-YEAR-OLD man travelled from Aberdeenshire to the Borders to meet a 15-year-old girl called “Amy” he had been communicating with so he could engage in unlawful sexual intercourse, Selkirk Sheriff Court has been told. But when Paul Rebecca had arrived in Peebles, he was confronted by a group of around 20 to 30 youths who called him a “paedo” and a “beast” and he had to drive off at speed.
Prosecutor India Carruthers said on December 18, 2024, a 15-year-old male was with friends and he told them it “would be funny to catfish an older male communicating indecently with a young female”.
Ms Carruthers said the teenager went on a site and started communicating with a man, aged 52 or 53, and pretended he was a 15-year-old girl called Amy.
The conversation quickly became sexualised and the man said he wanted to meet and asked “Amy” to send sexual pictures, while Rebecca sent a picture of his genitals.
The fiscal said that “Amy” suggested a meeting in Peebles and around 20 to 30 youths gathered at the meeting point and pursued Rebecca after he was identified.
Afterwards, Rebecca sent messages to “Amy” saying “Thanks a lot” and “Do you think that’s funny?”.
Adults at a youth club were informed and the police were contacted.
Officers visited Rebecca’s home in Auchnagatt and seized devices.
Extreme pornographic images were found, which included adults having intercourse with horses and dogs.
Rebecca pleaded guilty to a total of four charges.
They were possessing extreme pornographic images of bestiality at his home.
He also admitted between December 18 and December 20, 2024, sending sexualised images to a 15-year-old male pretending to be a 15-year-old girl called “Amy” and on December 20 travelling to Peebles to meet a child he believed to be called “Amy” with the intention of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse.
Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence until March 30 for the production of background reports and made Rebecca subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual offences Act - the length of which will be determined at the sentencing diet.
