DRUNK WOMAN’S FIERY ATTACK LANDS HER IN COURT AND COMMUNITY ORDER
Sarah Wignall, of Keldregate in Deighton, admitted that she did foolish things after drinking. She appeared at Kirklees Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to assault.
Prosecutor Emily Jenkings stated that the 29-year-old attacked her partner of five years on August 19 at their flat.
She told magistrates: “The victim got a text message from her saying that she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him.
He then went to a friend's house and had returned to his Huddersfield address and was opening the door when he saw Wignall approach on CCTV.
She grabbed his clothing and started to pull him from the address to the outside of the flat.” Wignall kept trying to drag her partner out, and both were shouting at each other.
She explained: “In self-defense, the defendant grabbed her arms to avoid violence and tried to push her away.
Once free, she punched him in the face, causing bruising and swelling.” She had two previous convictions, for a public order offense and for battery and criminal damage.
Wignall stated she could not remember much of the incident due to alcohol consumption.
Her solicitor said they are still together and mentioned their joint claim for benefits, indicating any financial impact would be shared.
Wignall was sentenced to a community order with six months of alcohol treatment and 10 days of rehabilitation activities.
She is also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
