A man responsible for a crash that severely injured a 94-year-old woman at a care home has been sentenced to over five years in prison.
The incident occurred after Sam Asgari-Tabar, 21, and Reece Parish, also 21, stole a car and attempted to escape police.
During the high-speed chase, Asgari-Tabar exceeded 100mph but lost control of the vehicle, which then collided with the care home.
The force of the impact caused part of the building to collapse, trapping a woman inside.
She had to be rescued from the debris with serious injuries, including a broken neck and spine.
It was later revealed that Asgari-Tabar was already disqualified from driving due to a drug-related conviction and was serving a suspended sentence for assaulting his parents.
He received a sentence of five years and eight months for robbery and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, Parish was sentenced to three years and a month for the robbery and also received a separate sentence for violent disorder related to the Sunderland riots.
