HUDDERSFIELD MAN CONVICTED OF GANG RAPE TEENAGER IN SUBWAY
Three men have been convicted after the gang rape of a teenager in a subway in Huddersfield.Saddam Muhamadaim and Abdul Latif Salih were found guilty of raping the 17-year-old girl, while Bahaldin Doud was convicted of attempting to rape her.
The attack occurred on July 14 last year in the subway that runs beneath the A62 Castlegate, between New North Road Baptist Church and the old Technical College building.
Following a nine-day trial at Leeds Crown Court, a jury of seven men and five women took six hours and five minutes to reach a unanimous verdict on nine charges.
Muhamadaim, who came to the UK from Sudan, initially provided his birth date as January 1993 but later claimed it was March 2001, making him 17 at the time of the offence and 18 now.
Sentencing was postponed pending an investigation that could influence the length of his sentence, potentially for life, which he will serve on the sex offenders register.
All three defendants were returned to custody with assurances of 'very lengthy' prison sentences.
