LEICESTER MAN GUILTY OF SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A 37-year-old man, Ross Smart of Cross Hedge Close, Beaumont Leys, was found guilty at Leicester Magistrates' Court of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
The incident occurred in September 2022 when Smart approached the girl at Beaumont Leys market, asked her to get on his electric bike for a short ride, and then proceeded to grope her.
According to her statement, Smart stroked her right leg and thigh, reached under her trousers, and asked her to kiss him despite her telling him she was only 14.
She attempted to retreat, but he pulled her closer, then rode off with her.
The girl was deeply traumatised, describing how she burned her clothes after the event and struggled with sleep for three months.
Smart denied any inappropriate conduct during the trial, but the court convicted him of sexual assault.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order, including 270 hours of unpaid work, and was subjected to a five-year sexual harm prevention order banning him from approaching or touching unknown women without permission.
