MILLOM MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN IN CARLISLE
A man has avoided immediate imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually touching a woman without her consent.Robert Weightman, who resides on Newton Street in Millom, appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on May 20.
He had pleaded guilty beforehand to a charge of sexual assault against a woman.
The charge stated that the offence took place in Carlisle on April 19.
The magistrates considered that Weightman had a reasonable chance of rehabilitation, and therefore, they decided to suspend a 12-week prison sentence for 18 months.
In addition to the suspended sentence, he was ordered to undertake a 120-day alcohol and abstinence monitoring program and adhere to a three-month curfew.
He was also directed to pay court costs amounting to £85.
