MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING, STRANGLING AND STALKING WOMAN
A man convicted of controlling, strangling, and stalking a woman leaving her fearing for her life has received a three-year custodial sentence.Kian Rowe, aged 21, restrained his former partner using his knees and then placed his hands around her neck, choking her and making her gasp for air in a notable incident.
During proceedings at Carlisle Crown Court, prosecutor Tim Evans described this event as part of a broader, relentless campaign of dominance and coercion that marked their relationship earlier this year.
Rowe engaged in verbal abuse, physical attacks, and limited the woman’s contact with loved ones.
He also dictated her clothing and set up fake social media accounts to threaten her.
The police became involved after Rowe himself reported false accusations of assault and stalking against the woman, which resulted in her initial arrest.
Mr.
Evans remarked, “This was a pre-emptive strike in effect, and another example of the defendant’s manipulating events,” Residing in Millom’s Croft Close, Rowe bombarded the woman with over 100 phone calls, numerous messages, and tracked her movements.
He also offered money to others for her assault.
The woman confided in police that she was genuinely afraid for her life, experiencing panic attacks and nightmares involving strangulation.
She expressed her wish to break free from Rowe’s control, stating, “All I want to say to Kian is ‘you don’t control my life any more." Rowe admitted to charges of strangulation, coercive control, and stalking, officially accepting responsibility for his actions.
The court, during sentencing, considered his unstable background, remorse, and attempt at self-improvement.
Kim Whittlestone, representing mitigation, highlighted his intentions to address personal issues.
Judge Michael Fanning, influenced by a detailed psychological assessment, Rowe’s youth, and his guilty pleas, sentenced him to three years in prison immediately.
Furthermore, a decade-long restraining order was issued to prevent contact with his victim.
