MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A CHILD
A man accused of inviting a child into his home before sexually abusing her has been convicted and sentenced to prison, as announced during today’s (16 October) court proceedings.Brendan Thompson, aged 56, from Millom, was found guilty by Carlisle Magistrates' Court of two charges of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration and one charge of touching a girl under 13.
Thompson maintained his innocence throughout the trial.
During his arrest, he gave a pre-prepared statement but declined to answer further questions.
Despite this, the court convicted him, sentencing him to nine years behind bars.
Additionally, he will be subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Matt Mullen said: “Thompson’s actions were predatory and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the young survivor of his offending.
“Thompson has refused to take responsibility for his actions throughout the investigation and court case.
“As a Constabulary, we continue to urge anyone who has been victim of a sexual offence – or who knows someone who has - to contact police so that our officers can investigate.
“No matter how long ago an incident occurred, we will investigate, support you alongside trusted partner agencies and do all we can to identify offenders and hold them to account.”
