STOCKPORT MAN JAILED FOR VILE ASSAULT ON WOMAN
A 26-year-old man named Robert Coupe from Stockport has been handed a prison sentence following a series of violent and abusive incidents targeting a woman.Over several months, Coupe repeatedly harassed her by making up to 30 phone calls daily and reaching out to her friends and family when she did not reply.
The woman avoided returning home after spotting Coupe waiting for her on security cameras.
On August 12, Coupe assaulted her publicly, punching and striking her, which resulted in significant injuries and heightened her fear for her safety.
During the assault, he also forced her into her bath and set her clothes on fire in the garden.
In response to police efforts, Coupe disconnected security cameras and attempted to conceal evidence by attempting to clean the address.
The woman managed to escape and was taken to hospital by a friend, after which she reported the incident to the authorities, leading to Coupe's arrest.
He admitted to charges of causing grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.
The court sentenced him to nearly two years in prison and issued a restraining order for ten years to prevent contact with the victim.
The police praised the victim’s bravery in coming forward, with PC Elizabeth Andrews commenting on her courage and cooperation during the case.
