TEENAGE CONTROLLING AND VIOLENT FORMER BOYFRIEND JAILED FOR STALKING AND ASSAULT
Update 13/12/2025: Robbie Gibson, who had been released on licence after serving a previous sentence, made a series of horrifying threats that caused significant distress to his former partner. In 2023, the 23-year-old was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison after admitting to numerous abusive acts against another ex-partner.
Teesside Crown Court was told that Gibson was arrested immediately upon release from custody, as he arrived at the prison gates.
Prosecutor Ashleigh Leach explained that Gibson’s abusive behaviour began following his recall to HMP Durham.
She recounted that he called the woman derogatory names such as ‘slag and slut,’ then flooded her with letters and additional calls.
Leach stated that when the woman told Gibson their relationship was over, it angered him, leading to threats including promises to 'kick her head in, stab her to death, and hit her with a pole' once he was out of prison.
He also threatened to harm her pets and colleagues, while directing racist insults at her and her workplace associates.
The victim was convinced that Gibson would follow through on these threats.
Despite efforts by prison officials to remove her contact details from their system, Gibson repeatedly attempted to have her number returned.
In a statement describing the impact, the woman said that the stalking made her feel terrified and too frightened to leave her house alone.
She expressed that even his imprisonment did not alleviate her fears, as she lived in dread of his potential release.
Gibson, who was detained at HMP Durham but originally from Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to stalking activities spanning from September 1 to September 20, 2023.
Mark Styles, mitigating, highlighted that Gibson is still young, relatively immature, and has much life ahead of him to mature.
He downplayed the severity of the stalking, noting it was neither prolonged nor highly sophisticated.
Recorder Dalpinder Singh sentenced Gibson to three years’ imprisonment for the stalking behaviour.
The judge also imposed a ten-year restraining order to safeguard the victim from further contact.

Robbie Gibson, aged 20, engaged in aggressive and controlling conduct toward his former partner.
His abusive actions included physically assaulting her multiple times, such as punching her to the ground and striking her repeatedly with a metal rod.
Additionally, he invaded her privacy by accessing her phone and social media platforms to exert control.
When she refused to give him money for cannabis, Gibson escalated his violence by mounting her and attempting to bite her.
During his arrest, he falsely claimed that she had stabbed him with a knife, hit him with a hammer necessitating surgery and threatened to kill him.
After being taken into custody, Gibson made 119 phone calls to his ex-girlfriend.
He later made unfounded allegations to the police, falsely asserting that she was the aggressor, and left threatening letters from prison containing messages like 'I'll get your kids taken off you' and 'I'm coming for everyone.' Despite being remanded, Gibson continued his threatening behaviour through sinister correspondence, with remarks such as 'Once I'm out I'll cripple her.
I swear deep down' and 'all of my dark thoughts are going to turn into reality.' He pleaded guilty to charges of controlling or coercive behaviour, perverting the course of justice, and intimidating witnesses.
The court described him as dangerous, manipulative, and dishonest, emphasizing the severe emotional toll on his victim, who felt 'nervous, anxious and scared on a regular basis.' Ultimately, Gibson was sentenced to nearly four years in prison, amounting to three years and eight months.
