MIDDLESBROUGH MAN JOHN MACE JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man responsible for engaging a minor in sexual activities during the holiday season several years ago, as well as sexually assaulting another child, has been sentenced to prison.In 2021, authorities from Cleveland Police launched an investigation into John Mace, 41, a resident of Middlesbrough, after reports of his concerning behavior emerged.
The investigation uncovered additional allegations concerning sexual assault and inappropriate conduct toward another young person.
On June 9, Mace appeared before Teesside Crown Court to receive a sentence of 33 months behind bars, with charges including two counts of child sexual assault and one count of encouraging a child to partake in sexual activities.
A jury found him guilty after a trial.
Throughout the proceedings, it was presented that Mace was often intoxicated when near children.
In one instance involving a victim, he would sit very close and make odd remarks.
Following the investigation, Mace was taken into custody, questioned, and ultimately charged.
Court evidence also revealed that he had coaxed a child into sexual acts during the Christmas period several years ago.
After sentencing, Detective Constable Bonnie Dowson of Cleveland Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People team stated: “Both victims trusted Mace, and he exploited that trust.
His actions made them feel uneasy and uncomfortable.
He tested the boundaries of his conduct, trying to see how far he could go without being caught.
I want to commend the victims who spoke out years later; their strength, courage, and bravery are commendable.
