RIDA AWOF SENTENCED IN SALFORD FOR RAPE IN MANCHESTER
In a disturbing incident that took place in the early hours of January 31 last year, Rida Awof, a 30-year-old man residing on Croft Street in Salford, was involved in a violent and sexual assault that shocked the local community and drew the attention of law enforcement authorities. The victim, a man in his 20s, was returning home after completing a night shift when he encountered Awof, who approached him on the street and attempted to initiate a conversation.
According to police reports, Awof did not merely engage in casual dialogue; instead, he persistently harassed the young man, following him as he made his way through the streets of Manchester.
The situation escalated when Awof pressured the victim to accompany him to his residence and demanded that he perform sexual favors.
As the victim tried to distance himself, Awof's behavior turned aggressive and threatening.
In a frightening sequence of events, Awof chased the victim across a main road, eventually catching up with him and dragging him into a nearby doorway.
There, he forcibly compelled the man to perform a sexual act, leaving the victim in a state of terror and distress.
Despite the assault, the victim managed to escape, running frantically through the streets and attempting to attract the attention of passing drivers in hopes of receiving help.
Unfortunately, no vehicles stopped to assist him during this critical moment.
As the victim fled, Awof caught up with him once more, resorting to physical violence by kicking and punching him.
The assault was interrupted when a security guard in the vicinity intervened, stepping in to protect the victim and prevent further harm.
The guard’s timely intervention was crucial in ensuring the victim’s safety and preventing the situation from escalating further.
Following the incident, forensic analysis played a key role in identifying Awof as the perpetrator.
Evidence collected from the victim’s clothing revealed a partial DNA sample that matched Awof’s profile, linking him directly to the crime.
This scientific evidence, combined with other investigative efforts, led police officers to arrest and charge Awof with the serious offense.
In May, Awof appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of oral rape.
His admission of guilt marked a significant development in the case, bringing some measure of closure to the victim and the community.
On July 21, the court sentenced Awof to a prison term of six years and four months.
Additionally, authorities announced that he would face deportation following the completion of his sentence, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the legal consequences he now faces.
