CONTROLLING THUG WHO MADE EX'S LIFE 'LIVING HELL' KNIFED HER FRIEND
A man known for his violent controlling behavior who severely impacted his ex-partner's life was responsible for stabbing her friend in the abdomen.Eamonn Davey, aged 59, inflicted serious injuries during the attack in Salford when he stabbed the victim in the stomach.
The incident followed the breakdown of his relationship with his ex-partner.
In a moment of rage, he attacked Mark Okopocini, a friend of his former partner.
Manchester Crown Court was told that Davey’s actions came after he had made his ex’s life extremely difficult, including trimming her hair short, preventing her from leaving their home, and using a tracking device to spy on her movements.
He was subsequently given a longer sentence for public protection.
Prosecutor Vanessa Thomson explained that Davey and his ex had been together for 15 years.
She described their initial relationship as good but noted that it deteriorated as Davey became increasingly aggressive, influenced by an excessive intake of prescribed medication.
For years, Davey exhibited violent and oppressive behavior.
He kept his ex confined at home, accused her of infidelity regularly, and controlled her daily activities.
She was forced to remain in pajamas all day, and she was questioned whenever she dressed up or wore minimal makeup.
She also recounted an episode when Davey punched her multiple times, though she chose not to report it at the time.
On another occasion, he kept her confined at their house for about four days, prohibited her from leaving, and altered her appearance by cutting her long hair very short.
During this period, Davey damaged her phone, preventing her from contacting authorities, and installed a tracking device on her phone.
He used a tablet to monitor her messages while she was hospitalized.
Eventually, she left the relationship, choosing to discharge herself from hospital.
Following their separation, Davey continued to harass her through messages and calls, even threatening to kill her.
She grew increasingly frightened due to his persistent contact.
After he moved out of their shared home, she discovered a hidden camera inside a bedroom.
On July 5 of the previous year, Davey arranged to meet her in a park, where he threatened her life.
The next day, she invited family members to her home for safety.
That day, Davey made threatening calls, warning: “I'm coming for you, watch what happens.” Later, Davey's friend, Mr.
Okopocini, visited her at her residence while she was out shopping.
He entered the house and, armed with a knife hidden in a plastic bag, produced it and pressed it slowly against him.
The man saw his intestines spilling from his body, and Davey shouted, “Now I’ve killed him, I’ve killed him.” Mr.
Okopocini managed to escape, grabbing his stomach and collapsing shortly after, fearing death.
He was taken to hospital with injuries considered life-changing, requiring daily medication to prevent sepsis.
In a victim impact statement, the ex-partner expressed her relief: “Eamonn Davey has made my life a living hell for 15 years.
I will not stand for it anymore.” Davey, from Capella Walk in Salford, admitted to charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, controlling and coercive behavior, and stalking.
The court sentenced him to a total of nine years and nine months in prison, plus an additional three years on license, deeming him a dangerous offender, as decided by Judge Hilary Manley.
