NOTTINGHAM STALKER WAVED KNIFE IN FRONT OF EX-PARTNER AND WAS HANDED SUSPENDED JAIL TERM

A stalker from Nottingham leant through a window at his former partner’s home and told her “if you go with anyone else I will kill you”.

Nottingham Crown Court heard how Ramone Campbell then picked up a knife and started waving it around in front of the terrified victim.

The 27-year-old, of St Ann's also made calls to the woman using a withheld number and took her mobile phone during a course of controlling behaviour.

The defendant then handed himself into the police days after making the knife threats and has now served the equivalent of 11 months in prison after being remanded.

Now, he has been released with a restraining order never to contact the victim again, or risk being sent back to jail.

Handing him an 18-month jail term, suspended for two years, Judge Michael Auty KC said: “Threatening anyone with a knife, particularly with how society is at present, is a serious offence.

The moment you take hold of a knife you have already lost control of it.

You don’t know whether you are going to drop it or if someone else might pick it up and use it on you.

Knives kill and the courts see that day in and day out.” Sue Rodham, prosecuting, said both offences took place against his then partner.

She said: “The stalking is him contacting her, making ‘no caller ID’ calls, taking her mobile phone and posting it through the letterbox the next day.

Generally being a nuisance.

“On January 30, he attended her address shouting at her through the window and making threats along the lines of ‘if you go with anyone else, I will kill you’.

He then leaned through the window, picked up a knife and started waving it at her and threatening her.

She tried to close the window and he left and threw away the knife.

He then voluntarily surrendered himself on February 2.” Campbell, of Rose Close, pleaded guilty to stalking and threatening another with a knife in a private place.

He has a number of previous convictions.

As part of the suspended sentence order, the judge ordered the defendant to carry out 100 hours unpaid work, attend 10 rehabilitation sessions and a specialist 31-day programme.

He also handed him a restraining order until further order.
