FATHER JAILED FOR SHAKING BABY CAUSING BRAIN DAMAGE
A man who violently shook his six-week-old baby daughter, Jade, causing brain damage, has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Quentin Starling, 32, from Radford in Nottingham, was convicted earlier this year by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court of causing grievous bodily harm by shaking.
The incident happened in the early hours when Starling, reportedly due to loss of sleep or losing control, shook his infant.
The baby exhibited convulsions, bleeding in the brain, and a fractured spine.
The judge, Joan Butler, stated that Starling's action was an violent shake and that he failed to seek immediate medical help, instead risking the child's life.
During the court proceedings, Starling denied causing the injury but claimed it was due to a forceps delivery six weeks prior.
The judge expressed some hope for the child's recovery but emphasized that prognosis could not be finalized until she is older.
