TEENAGER WHO ASSAULTED EX-GIRLFRIEND AND SPEEDING YOUTH IN FRASERBURGH SENTENCED
A Rathen teenager who knocked out his ex-girlfriend and later sped off from police to avoid being caught driving without a licence has appeared in the dock.Presley Cumming, 18, was found to have assaulted his former girlfriend during a violent attack, resulting in her falling unconscious and sustaining a minor cut to her left elbow.
She was struck to the ground unconscious for about a minute.
The incident was reported to the Peterhead Sheriff Court, where Cumming admitted to the assault and also to road traffic offences including speeding and driving without a licence.
On March 16 this year, Cumming was observed by police running to his white BMW 120 at a Fraserburgh petrol station and fleeing at excessive speeds, over 70mph in a 30mph zone, and blowing past three red lights, eventually driving the wrong way up Mid Street.
Defence solicitor Leonard Burkinshaw stated that Cumming panicked upon seeing the police, which led to his dangerous driving, and highlighted his youth.
The court sentenced him to complete more than 250 hours of unpaid community work, imposed a 19-month driving disqualification, and granted a three-year non-harassment order barring contact with his ex-girlfriend.
The sheriff emphasized the unacceptability of his actions, calling the assault 'not remotely justifiable' and describing his driving as 'terrible.'
