FISHERMAN SENTENCED FOR OVER FIVE YEARS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND CONTROLLING BEHAVIOR
A fisherman from Fraserburgh has been sentenced after a lengthy campaign of controlling and abusive behavior towards his former partner, which persisted for over five years.Phillip Wilson, aged 29, appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court where he admitted to a charge of domestic abuse.
His offending included mocking the woman about her C-section scar following the birth of their child, demanding to know her whereabouts, and even entering her home by climbing through an open window after they had separated.
The court was told that his ex-partner described his actions as "controlling".
The abusive relationship lasted from April 1, 2019, to March 5 of this year, involving addresses in Rothes and Macduff.
Wilson's behavior involved sending threatening messages, making nasty comments about the woman’s C-section scar, and calling her a "bad mother".
On one occasion, he was caught climbing into her home through the window, and he repeatedly forced his way into her residence despite being told he was unwelcome.
The situation escalated on March 4 when he showed up at her back door and flooded her with messages.
The next day, during an argument, he called her a "slag", refused to leave her home, and became verbally abusive, prompting her to contact police.
The call handler reported that Wilson made threats regarding social services and her parenting.
During court proceedings, his defense solicitor stated that Wilson accepted his actions were wrong, expressed remorse, and apologized to the victim, acknowledging she deserved better.
He stated that Wilson had no contact with his ex-partner since the incident and that he has two children to consider to avoid setting a bad example.
As part of the sentence, Wilson is subject to a non-harassment order preventing him from contacting his victim for 12 months, and he will be under social work supervision for two years, with a requirement to complete a program aimed at preventing domestic abuse re-offending.
