FRASERBURGH MAN SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT IN PETERHEAD
A man from Fraserburgh named John Dellow, aged 38, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after a trial at Aberdeen’s High Court. He was found guilty of raping a woman at an address in Peterhead more than three years ago.
Dellow was also convicted of assaulting and injuring a teenage girl at an address in Peterhead by brandishing a hammer and grabbing her by the hair.
The jury delivered guilty verdicts on both offences by a majority vote, although three additional charges of indecent communication with a teenage girl were not proven.
During the sentencing hearing, Dellow appeared via video link from custody and showed no emotional response.
His defense, represented by David Moggach KC, acknowledged his guilt and mentioned his poor mental health.
Judge William Summers described the assault on the girl as ‘troubling’ and noted that Dellow had shown no insight or empathy towards his victims.
The judge highlighted that Dellow ignored the girl’s lack of consent during the rape and continued to deny responsibility, demonstrating no remorse.
Dellow received a 12-month sentence for the assault on the teenage girl and six years for the rape, with the sentences to run consecutively, totaling seven years.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offender’s Register indefinitely and given non-harassment orders to prevent contact with both victims.
