MAN CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF INDECENT IMAGES JAILED
A man identified as Philip Davidson has been sentenced to 13 months in jail after being found in possession of 272 indecent images of children.
The court was told Davidson was arrested following his partner discovering images on his laptop and reporting it to the police.
It was revealed that Davidson had been downloading such images for over 11 years.
The court, sitting at Douglas Courthouse, also ordered Davidson to be placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and imposed a sexual harm prevention order to restrict his use of internet-connected devices.
The police seized multiple electronic devices from his home, including a laptop and mobile phone, and found images categorized from level one to four on the Copine scale, with ten images in the most severe category.
Davidson denied four counts of possessing indecent images but was found guilty after a trial.
His defense argued that his offending was irregular and that he had no direct involvement in child abuse.
However, the judge, Deemster Graeme Cook, emphasized that images above level one invariably involve children in sexual activity and stated, "You might think they're just photographs, they're not." The judge also noted Davidson had shown little remorse and had lost his previous good character.
