MAN JAILED FOR 25 YEARS FOR RAPE AND ABUSE OF GIRL
A man labeled a "sexual monster" by a judge has received a 25-year prison sentence after admitting to numerous charges related to the abuse and sexual exploitation of a young girl.Peter Rowland-Hinton, 37, appeared remotely from prison at Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing after earlier pleading guilty to 34 counts, which included 20 charges of raping a child under 13.
Judge Emma Peters stated that he will need to serve a minimum of 16 years before being eligible for parole.
The crimes, which took place over a period of seven years, came to authorities' attention after the victim disclosed the abuse last year, according to prosecutor Claire Matthews.
Rowland-Hinton was detained in October, but he provided no response during police interviews.
Subsequent searches of his possession led to the discovery of a laptop containing a significant amount of indecent images of children, including 66 of the most serious Category A, alongside additional images categorized as B and C.
In January 2021, he was interviewed again and provided two prepared statements to officers.
During the court hearing, the defendant admitted to having a sexual attraction to young girls.
A statement from the victim, read aloud in court, described how the abuse had affected her life.
The court noted that Rowland-Hinton had no prior convictions related to sexual offenses.
Defense counsel Joanne Eley highlighted his mental health issues, including depression, and stated that he regrets his actions and recognizes himself as a paedophile with a particular interest in young females.
Earlier this year, Rowland-Hinton pleaded guilty to 20 counts of child rape, 11 sexual assault charges, and three counts related to indecent images.
Judge Peters condemned the scope of his criminal behavior as "astonishing and terrifying" and emphasized the profound harm caused to his victim, calling him a "sexual monster." He was sentenced to 25 years, with an extended licence period of eight years due to being deemed a dangerous offender posing a significant risk to society.
As part of his sentence, he will spend at least two-thirds in prison, equating to roughly 16 years and eight months, before potential parole consideration.
